Using drone technology with RTK/PPK on construction, infrastructure and asset inspection projects
Last week we were out testing the latest drone technology with built in RTK/PPK. We want to find out if the manufactures claim of less than 5cm accuracy can be achieved in real life conditions.
As the drone survey captures data during the flight its constantly communicating with the base station to obtain accurate positioning. We are using GCPs (control points and check points) to test the data. Excited to see the results shortly.
We are using the data from a drone survey to create a digital twin of a project to help surveyors, designers, project managers and senior management understand construction progress related to the design models and month to month.
The technology should also be very useful for roof surveys in terms of creating 3D point clouds and 2D orthomosaics for CAD/REVIT modelling.
