15km linear infrastructure project digitised in just 2 days by drone survey

We digitised a 15km linear infrastructure project, 40m each side of the easement to assist the surveyors, designers, project managers and management teams with the following:


  • Enable progress monitoring of the project at all stages of the build against the design models

  • Manage earthworks with cut and fill volumetric measurements

  • The high resolution imagery can be integrated and used in BIM

  • Evidence regarding the amount of work carried out


The use of RTK/PPK drone technology allowed us to speed up data capture process as previously this would have taken weeks but now it can be done in days.


We achieved global accuracies of approx. 30mm at the checkpoints. We flew the project in 2 days, 1 day for ground control and 3 days processing to provide the client with a variety of survey grade accurate 2D and 3D digital data tied into the OS grid.


Those outputs included: 3D point cloud with over 1 billion points, 2D orthomosaic used in AutoCAD and compared with the design models, a digital terrain model (DTM) with the elimination of non-earthworks features and contour maps.
