Linear infrastructure project surveyed using fixed wing RTK/PPK drone technology
We digitised a linear infrastructure project to assist the surveyors, designers, project managers and management teams using fixed wing RTK/PPK drone technology.
The use of RTK/PPK drone technology allowed us to speed up data capture process as previously this would have taken weeks but now it can be done in days.
The survey grade accurate 2D/3D digital data from drone technology is going to play a huge part on the High Speed 2 (HS2) project and the Highways England 15 year roadmap for connected and autonomous plant aims to support a digital revolution in construction.
The digital data was used to:
1. Enable progress monitoring of the project at all stages of the build against the design models
2. Manage earthworks with cut and fill volumetric measurements
3. The high resolution imagery can be integrated and used in BIM
4. Evidence regarding the amount of work carried out
The digital models allow contractors to make accurate and regular earthworks calculations, (reducing risk and improving cash flow) while also using the data to enhance internal and external communication with the project teams and client. As-build vs design analysis can also be carried out at any phase in the construction process.
Aerial LiDAR can be used to carry out topographical surveys of areas with dense vegetation varying from grass/brambles through to mature trees and shrubs.
