Drone technology used to pull rope between power transmission and distribution pylons
We've been using our heavy lift drone to test the concept of pulling rope between power transmission and distribution pylons.
We successfully used a 12mm blue rope at a distance of 250m + representing approx. 6kg of weight. We tested the drone at different lateral distances to find out how it affected the drone itself.
It can be very difficult for linemen and staff to get their machinery and equipment to the area where the stringing of power lines is taking place. To maximize productivity and safety, electricity utility companies are investigating the use of drone technology for this type of work.
Drone technology can be used by utility companies for routine inspections on transmission and distribution systems, storm damage evaluations, land surveys, vegetation management inspections etc.
Drone technology is going to become another tool to safely and efficiently complete work within the electricity industry.
