ProDroneWorx was engaged by Bouygues Energies & Services to carry out a detailed drone inspection of the roofs and guttering at Barnet Hospital. The hospital is part of the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust group offering a wide range of acute medical services including paediatrics, dermatology, gynaecology and orthopaedics among others. The hospital is located on Wellhouse Lane, Chipping Barnet, North London.
Drone technology, cameras (RGB, thermal imaging etc.) and data processing have come a long way over the last few years and are now a creditable alternative to the traditional ways of surveying or inspecting assets.

The use of drone technology mitigated the Health & Safety risks that come with a surveyor working at height. There were also significant cost reductions for both Bouygues E&S and the NHS hospital trust. The drone inspection allowed Bouygues E&S to check in detail the quality of works previously done that could not have been checked without working at height.
The inspection highlighted missing slats in areas not visible from the ground and gutters that needed cleaning and those that could wait for the next periodic cycle.
Drone technology is being used on a yearly basis to gather digital asset data as part of a planned maintenance programme for the hospital. The detailed roof inspections are carried out within one day and are saving Bouygues Energies & Services and the NHS hospital trust a significant amount of time. The digital data provides:
